HDP presents findings on spatial planning for hyperloop

Interactive FAQ

The Hyperloop Development Program (HDP) presented the results of three workshops on the spatial planning for hyperloop in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The report contains insights and recommendations to realize hyperloop infrastructure in the Netherlands. The future vision is to ensure accessibility to essential amenities and to create a more livable country in light of the growing population.

Presentation of report to Dutch Minister Mark Harbers

On November 2, the results of the workshops were officially presented to Mark Harbers, the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, at the Innovation Expo event in Rotterdam. This occasion provided a unique opportunity to share the findings with the minister, policymakers and the broader innovation ecosystem, and to create support for the further development and implementation of hyperloop technology.

Call for urban and interregional hyperloop network

The call from the workshop participants is clear and powerful: "Take into consideration an urban and interregional hyperloop network and make work, health care and education easily accessible for existing and new residential areas." This goal reflects the HDP's ambition to use hyperloop as an innovative and sustainable short- and long-distance solution to improve mobility and the living environment.

The report includes analyses and recommendations for the optimal spatial integration of hyperloop in the Benelux region, taking into account factors such as environmental impact, urban development and spatial integration. These findings mark an important milestone in the journey towards a more sustainable and efficient future of mobility in the Netherlands and its border regions. In addition, attention is drawn to further research that is needed regarding the socio-economic effects of new hyperloop connections within the Netherlands and the connection to international corridors of strategic importance.

Strong participation of hyperloop partners

The Hyperloop Development Program remains committed to advancing hyperloop as a breakthrough technology and new mode of transportation that is complementary to the existing mobility system. It is our belief that the hyperloop can play a crucial role in creating a more accessible and liveable society for everyone.

HDP partners and other organizations participated in the workshops, including Antea Group, Arcadis, Bakkers-Hommen, Berenschot, Hardt Hyperloop, Kuiper Compagnons, the Dutch Ministry of Interior Affairs, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Dutch Railways (NS), ProRail, Tata Steel, TNO and UNStudio.
